I absolutely loved working in this location – we spend so much time on windswept beaches that this beautiful dappled-light wood and orchard were a really refreshing change.

Now then, you’ll never guess the ending: Ruth and Aaron were actually celebrating their TENTH wedding anniversary, and at the time these photos were taken Ruth was pregnant with their 5th child!!! Doesn’t she look amazing?! And what a lovely way to get some me-time as a busy mum. We think it’s a fabulous idea. Now imagine the logistics of arranging a photoshoot and keeping it a secret from not only from Aaron but from all the other children who would have had to keep quiet for a LOOONG time! We had lots of help and LOTS of laughs in the process.

So….if your man thinks you just can’t surprise him any more….we’d love to hear from you.

Now then, what to do when Wales are in the semi-final of the rugby World Cup but you have to work??? No need to worry, everyone was watching it of course.

And the disappointment of the final score only lasted a few seconds before we all moved on to celebrating a gorgeous wedding day.

The ceremony was just up the road at the truly beautiful chapel in Peniel, Carmarthenshire.

As is always the case with village weddings, while the groom and guests wait patiently inside the bride is greeted by large crowds of enthusiastic onlookers outside!

We are starting to see more of this lovely practice of serving afternoon tea, or in this case a light lunch, in the church or chapel hall immediately after the ceremony.

Then it was off to Newton House, Dinefwr Park – a National Trust property – for a few formal photos, before a little time with Lois and Martin for some laid-back portraits.

My favourite image of the day, of perhaps the cutest flower girl EVER!! I wish our Loren could meet her, they would have a blast. They speak very little of each other’s first language yet but I don’t think that would hold them back!

And here’s Vince’s favourite image of the day, a gorgeous portrait of a stunning bride. Then it was on to greet the waiting fans at The Plough, in the village of Rhosmaen.

I’m sure every bride fervently hopes that by the morning of the wedding everything is sorted out and everybody knows their jobs. Poor Lisa seemed to spend most of her morning on the phone – I could have picked from half a dozen such pictures of her! Fortunately there were lots of smiles too while she smoothed out the last minute creases. Here are some of our favourite images from Lisa and Sam’s beautiful day at Caerphilly Castle – we’ve got rather a lot of favourites but I’m sure you’ll agree that Lisa is ridiculously cute, which makes it very hard to pick only a few!!

I love how the castle is right in the middle of all the shops, but once you get inside it is such a stately, imposing setting. This strikes me every time we work there. I adore the windows!!

Lisa was very excited about her cake, and about what everyone’s reaction to it would be. So this layer looks like a traditional romantic wedding cake doesn’t it? With a nice James Bond vibe going on…

…but then you get the Thunderbirds layer!…

…and then the SpongeBob SquarePants layer!!!

We love people who want to be completely unique and add a little surprise into their day.

Not to be outdone, Sam had a surprise of his own after dinner. Lisa doesn’t just love strawberries…it’s an obsession! And these were undoubtedly the best chocolate-coated strawberries you’ve ever seen, a real work of art. I don’t think Sam could have chosen a better surprise.

We had a really memorable day and evening with Lisa and Sam and we wish them every possible happiness together. All their images can be seen by following the Clients link on our Wedding Photography web site.

The little coastal town of Newport, Pembrokeshire had a busy day for weddings the second Saturday in September – there were 4 going on at the same time! But we got the best one to photograph with Becca & Sam’s lovely day with great friends and family!

Sam and his entourage got to use the wonderfully characterful Lllys Meddyg ‘Restaurant with Rooms’ to primp and preen themselves…

They then braved a brief downpour to relax in the pub next door, and so that Becca and her party could come in and take ownership of the rooms for their preparations.

The dress was astonishing with exquisite filigree and lacework, and Becca lived up to it in equal beauty.

The car was a truly authentic classic – an  Austin Ascot, that took Becca and her dad the short journey to St Mary’s Church in the village.

Throughout the ceremony the couple’s expressions clearly revealed the level of devotion they have for each other.

The church grounds overlooking the bay was a great spot for the group photos, then it was on to The Parrog for some time with just Becca & Sam.

Back at the reception one of  Becca’s friends was providing some glorious soulful music, whilst guests mingled and enjoyed yummy food.

The coconut shy was a a great hit and appropriately Sam was the first to win himself one.

This pose was our take on an America Gothic/landed gentry portrait session. Sam and Becca carried it off perfectly.

We loved both the decor of Llys Meddyg and the cute, folksy style with which Becca had decorated the garden, marquee and restaurant. (She handmade her own bunting!)

We had a fabulous day, and it was an honour to be invited along to capture it.

Rhian and Jamie held their intimate reception at The Fountain Restaurant in Aberkenfig.

The speeches were very emotional, as if often the case when you have just a small group of family and very close friends with you. Especially at this moment when a vintage tea-towel that has become a family heirloom was passed on to the newlyweds.

As always, the children were first onto the dance floor.

We started out at Castell Malgwyn where Mark and his parents and Best Man were getting ready.

Then it was off to Jessica’s parents’ farm where, in spite of dozens of extra people staying in the house and all sorts of hustle and bustle, Jess was ready bang on schedule and ready to greet her adoring public!

Then it was back to Newcastle Emlyn, just two minutes from home for us!

It was our first time photographing in this beautiful church, and we were kept well entertained by Father Joseph who was nothing short of hilarious!

Below is Vince’s absolute favourite shot of the day – his take on American Gothic.

Literally 60 seconds after Jess and Mark walked out of church the heavens opened. And not just ordinary rain but those huge heavy raindrops we are often favoured with here in Wales. That kind of unfortunate timing is surprisingly rare in our experience though – the weather almost never has any real effect on your day. This particular little storm did necessitate a brief retreat indoors for the bridal party, but I stuck it out because I think umbrellas can make for great photos!

Jess and Mark stuck with their plan of walking up to the castle ruins for some portraits. The image below is my own second favourite of the day! The clouds and the stormy light just sum up the moment, and I adore how the wedding dress still looks gorgeous all bunched up like that!

We did have to let them climb in the carriage during another sharp shower but we persevered and got there in the end!

Then it was 20 minutes up the road to Rhosygilwen, where it had not rained, and it certainly appeared that a good time was had by all!

The wedding breakfast was served in the magnificent Oak Hall.

The Best Man thought that Jess and Mark’s big day was just as deserving of kitsch memorabilia as a certain other wedding in the UK this year, and had made t-shirts and mugs for the couple and for all their parents!!

After all the emotions of the speeches it was time to relax and get dancing! The Italian tradition is to throw confetti over the couple as they do their first dance.

The band Fake Tan came all the way from London, and while they claimed to be intimidated by singing for a Welsh and Italian crowd, the most renowned singers in the world, they were without question the best wedding band we have ever heard!!

If you’re looking for a cover band who cannot fail to get everyone dancing and do it hilariously, with loads of energy, and great crowd interaction, this is the band for you. We’re seriously considering finding an excuse for a party just so we can hire them.

And here’s my absolute favourite of the images I took. Wedding days are so tough on young children, especially if they are in the bridal party, and this little one was a trooper. But at some point enough is enough!!

We started at Catrin’s family farm, where in spite of the hubbub Catrin had the calmness of a Greek Goddess as well as the look!

Then we were off to a stunningly located chapel in the tiny village of Penybont.

The minister was absolutely hilarious; he gave the longest build-up to a Bride and Groom’s first kiss that I’ve ever heard – fortunately Meirion could handle the pressure.

We love it when there’s time to mingle outside the church or chapel – it gives us a chance to capture some great interactions.

We drove down to Newport Beach for some time with the couple and the bridal party.

Then it was back to Newport Golf Links. You couldn’t find a better spot for showing off the Welsh countryside – gorgeous views in every direction!

I had to include this adorable cake table – so pretty with all the roses and sweet peas.

The evening kicked off with a Twmpath – love this!!! It’s my absolute favourite thing, I always want to join in the dancing.

We had a great night, and early the next morning we zoomed off all the way to Yorkshire in order to capture a wedding on the Monday – look out for pictures of yet another fab location coming soon!!
