Weddings from Whole Picture

Georgie and Johnny at Roch Village Hall, Pembrokeshire

You probably wouldn’t guess from the sunny picture above that on the day of Georgie and Johnny’s wedding we had the worst weather we have ever had on a wedding day in ten years of shooting weddings. Or that this day of lashing wind and rain was the day following this scorcher!

George and Johnny are serious outdoor enthusiasts. Not satisfied, as most would be, with reflecting this in the details and decor of the wedding, this couple invited friends to start the day with a morning surf with them at Newgale Beach. Absolutely brilliant idea – any stress or nerves are just going to get washed away. 🙂

Then George joined her family at a rented country cottage to get dried and dressed. To represent her love of hiking the Pembrokeshire coastal paths, George and her sisters made all the bouquets and buttonholes themselves from gorse and heather and other wildflowers they collected. Beautiful and unique, although you did have to be careful of gorse prickles when hugging anyone. 🙂

George made it to the church in Johnston in spite of driving rain that meant we could hardly see through the windscreen! Luckily a warm welcome awaited.

Vince has known George all her life, and after Vince and I got married I was George’s church youth leader through her teens. She asked me to say a few words in the ceremony (that’s me above getting the best view of her walking in!) which was an honour, and a great chance to remind George of how she described her ideal man when she was 14!

These two being beach addicts, we had naturally planned to take a few shots at a favourite secluded spot. We set off to give it a go in spite of the rain – and winds strong enough to break the road signs! It’s always worth a try – before now we’ve left church in pouring rain only to have beautiful sunshine 5 minutes down the road. Such is the changeability of the weather when you live between the sea and the mountains!

No such luck this time, but we all braved the wet for a few shots before retiring to Roch Village Hall where the guests were gathering.

What a cute and co-ordinated family! We so love all these lovely people. 🙂

After a yummy pig roast, dessert was provided by everyone. 🙂 The contributions were judged and prizes awarded by George and Johnny.

By now the sun had come out. It’s extremely rare for it to rain solidly all day on your wedding day, regardless of time of year, so if you’re flexible enough to take advantage of the sun whenever it makes its appearance it’s always possible to make use of the surroundings. We stole these two away just before the speeches and managed to get a lot captured in a very few minutes.

The evening’s entertainment came from a great folkdance duo Fiddlebox who had absolutely everyone joining in the Ceilidh dancing. The multi-talented George even got to join them for a number. 🙂

This wedding came at the end of 5-weddings-in-3-weeks for us last summer, a real killer schedule. The final week also included running all the official photography at the huge 3-day Pembrokeshire Agricultural Show for Vince, and running a church camp for 40 teenage girls for me, while our poor daughter was passed from pillar to post all week. I was also suffering debilitating morning sickness, but trying to pretend to be normal because we weren’t telling anybody about the pregnancy yet! So to say we were tired by the time this wedding arrived is somewhat of an understatement. BUT we love both George and Johnny so much that we wouldn’t have missed it for the world, and it was such a privilege to witness them finally arriving at this day – and to get to capture it for them forever.

All the photos can be seen, purchased, and viewed as a slideshow on the Clients page of our Wedding Photography web site. George and Johnny are STILL on their extended working honeymoon to the Galapogas Islands, Equador and Columbia! Thanks so much for letting us share your amazing day – looking forward to seeing you again soon. x
